Lancing and Sompting U3A Walking Group
Scheduled Walks : Monday 22 nd June 2026 to Monday 27 th July 2026
All our walks will be on the level, from ½ mile to 1 ½ miles at most and we aim to
share our knowledge of the history and culture of this part of Sussex. Members of
the Walking Group will receive an e-mail invitation to each of these walks, one week
before the walk. Book in by replying to this e-mail to Heather Stone with your name
and the walk.

Monday 22 nd June 202: Brooklands park; RHS Malvern Show Garden
Meet at the café in Brooklands Park at 10.30 a.m. We will walk to the raised beds
area to see the RHS Malvern Show garden that was transplanted to Brooklands Park
on the 18 th of May.
We can also follow the Nature Trail and check up the new works in the park. Tea
and cakes at the Brooklands Café afterwards.
Total walk: About 1/2 mile, on the flat, 1 hour

Monday 13 th July: Chesham House: Planning
Join Clare, Ann and me at Chesham House Café at 10.30 am where we can catch up
on our members. Then we can check out the research and plan our next three
walks.

Monday 27 th July 202: Henfield Heritage
Meet at Churchill Square, Brighton at 10.30. We will catch the number 17 bus to
Henfield at 10.50 am. We will arrive in Henfield at 11.30. We will visit Potwells,
Tanyard, a graveyard, the cat house, a Manor House, a Medieval Hall House – 41
possible houses in total. Refreshments in the village or Brighton on return. (the bus
runs every 30 minutes).
Total walk: About 1 mile, on the flat, 1 hour

researching and assessing these walks. We will let you know as soon as we can
schedule them.
Bus to Littlehampton
The 701 bus travels a faster route to Littlehampton. The Museum is very good

About 12 old buildings along High Street. Lovely café next to Church

Lancing to Worthing Beachcombing at low tide
Walk from Beach Green Lancing to Worthing Pier at low tide. Deep sand exposed,
great for beachcombing. Must be at low tide

Tour of St Mary’s Sompting
Guided Tour. Postponed due to bad weather last year.
Volunteers said due to be open to public during festival events this year. Need to
check dates and arrange our tour to coincide.
No 7 and/or number 16 Bus from Lancing to Sainsbury’s, footpath to Church.
Return same way. Picnic on route?

Walk schedule 25 09/06/2026
Possible Future Walks
The following walks have been suggested as potential future walks. We still need
volunteers to research and evaluate them. We also need volunteers to lead and
guide the walks if they are determined as suitable. This does not have to be the
same member/s who have assessed the walks. Please let me know if you are
interested in any of these tasks.
Hove Museum of Culture
No 700 bus to King Alfred Leisure Centre. Walk to Museum. Indian Memorial in
grounds. Excellent exhibition of films and toys, Vintage style café with home cooked
cakes. Listed properties nearby could be tied in. Could be good winter walk.
Guided tour of Lancing Chapel
One of our members is a tour guide there. Number 9 bus stops on A27 near road to
Chapel. But the road up is long steep climb.
Brighton Marina to Rottingdean
Number 700 bus to Churchill Square Brighton. Frequent buses to Brighton Marina.
Cliff path walk along to Rottingdean. Several cafes serving cream teas. Could be
good summer walk.
Horsham
Number 23 to Horsham. Every 30 minutes, 1 hour journey. Travels through some
pretty villages. Excellent museum, good shops and plenty of cafes.

It is the responsibility of all members to decide for themselves whether they feel safe
and comfortable to undertake these walks, which are at their own risk. Members
should wear suitable clothes and shoes for walking.
If a walk is cancelled, Heather will contact by email those who have previously
booked in, or by text if on the morning of the walk. If you decide not to undertake a
booked walk, then please let Heather know.
We regret dogs are not permitted on the walks.
